About The Place
Half Dome is one of the most popular landmarks of Yosemite National Park in California. The dome is made of granite, and it is widely famous for its unique shape. The three sides of the dome are round and smooth, whereas one side is a steep face. This distinct formation of the dome appears like it is cut in half. The dome is rising nearly 5,000 ft above the valley and about 8,800 ft above the sea level. Every year, thousands of people reach the dome through a challenging hike. There are park rangers to assist people in case of emergencies.
Before You Go, Tips & Guide
It takes about 10 to 12 hours to hike the Half Dome and back. However, some people take even longer. If you are planning to hike during the day, we recommend you to leave early so you can get back in daylight. Also, if you don't reach the dome by 3.30 pm, you'll have to turn around. Before you hike, make sure to check the timings and plan ahead. Don't forget to carry a flashlight or a headlamp to assist you after the dark. The cost to hike is $10 per person, to be paid at a wilderness center the day you want to hike or earlier.
